3 killed, 2 hurt as Lorry pushes auto-rickshaw in Rangamati

Driver, helper of Lorry went hiding after accident

Desk Report: Three persons were killed and two others were seriously injured when a Lorry pushed a running CNG-run autorickshaw from the behind at Shalbagan area on Chittagong-Rangamati road on Thursday morning.

The dead were identified as Md. Hanif,55 so of late Ahmed Miah of village Swarnatila, Tabalchari, Rangamati, Nirab Hossain,50, son of Abdul Aziz of village Tabalchari, Rangamati and Md. Sohel,21, son of Jasim Uddin of village Gabtal in Islampur union in Rangunia upazila in Chittagong.

Among the injured, auto-rickshaw driver Md. Nur Azim, son of Md. Mojibur Rahman of village Gopalgonj district and Soikat Chakma son of Deba Moni Chakma of village Purbo Sonaichhari in Betbuina union under Kawkhali upazila of Rangamati district.

The two critically injured were sent to Chittagong Medical Collage and Hospital for better treatment on Thursday night, said Nihar Ranjan Nandi, civil surgeon  of Rangamati.  

Quoting locals, Kawkhali police said the accident took place at around 9:00am when a good laden lorry pushed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw from the behind after losing it control over the steering, leaving three passengers of auto-rickshaw dead on spot and injuring two others. The auto-rickshaw with its passengers was heading toward Betbunia from Rangamati town. Both the Lorry and auto-rickshaw were fell into the road side ditch. The auto-rickshaw was rammed fully.

The driver and helper of the lorry were went hiding soon after the incident. However, police are hunting them to make them arrest, said Mir Abu Touhid bpm bar, superintendent of Rangamati police. A case was filed with Kawkhali police station in this connection.
