CHTJ Desk: The office of the Chief of Chakma Circle has taken an elaborate programmes on the occasion of upcoming traditional ‘Bijhu’ festival of the indigenous community in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT). Under the project of ‘Chittagong Hill Tracts Watershed Co-management Activities(CHTWCA)’funded by USAID and CHTDF-UNDP aimed at improving lifestyle, tradition and culture of the indigenous people of 25 ‘Village Common Forest’ brought under the project.
As part of the programmes, different adivasi sports and cultural events have already been begun at Chuberega village under Longudu upazila. Karbari Binoy Prasad Chakma of Lolluya mouza, presided the programme, headman Alon Bikash Chakma, Prafulla Kumar Chakma, karbari Monomoy Chakma and advocacy officer of the project Nixon Chakma, spoke, among others. Sushil Bikash Chakma, project coordinator, moderated the prize awarding ceremony.
Indigenous sports including Ghilehela, Nadeng hela, Banshkaram, pottihela and beating bamboo drum (dhol) were marked the competition. Later, renowned folk artist Romoni Mohon Chakma rendered ‘Genkhuli’ over the night.
