CHTJ Desk: POLICE on Thursday morning arrested a rapist in connection with a rape incident of an indigenous girl student from Natun Bazar area under Kaptai upazila of the district.

The rapist identified as Md. Shah Alam,28, son of Abdul Motin of village Nischintapur in Rangunia upazila in Chittagong. Shah Alam is a CNG-run three wheeler driver.

On Wednesday morning an indigenous girl was gang raped by four Bengali youths. The incident took place when the girl, a student of class nine of Kaptai High School, went for jogging at around 5:00am in the courtyard of Swagatam Building, beside the main road at Kaptai where she is living with her auntys’ family. Four Bengali youths boarding with a CNG-run three wheeler came and stopped their vehicle there and forcibly squeezed her by pressing on her mouth from the behind and shoved her into the auto-rickshaw. The youths then took her into a nearby jungle where they violated the girl one by one about one hour. Later the rapists dropped her with the auto-rickshaw near her residence, said Ranjan Kumar Samonta, officer in-charge of Kaptai police station and investigation officer (IO) of the case, quoting the victim.

Victim’s mother Purno Debi Chakma filed a rape case accusing four with the Kaptai police station in this connection on the day of incident.

“After filing of the case by victim’s mother, we conducted a pre-dawn raid and arrested the rapist on Thursday. I firmly say that Shah Alam is one of the rapists among the four,” said the OC.

We recovered the auto-rickshaw which used by the rapists and our police is hunting for other youths. We have taken Shah Alam into two days remand and now we are interrogating him to whereabouts the other rapists, said Samonta, IO of the case.

Kaptai police yesterday (Thursday) produced the alleged rapist before the Chief Judicial Magistracy Court by seeking five day remand. However, the court has granted only two days remand for the rapist.

“I used to jogging for half an hour everyday early in the morning in the courtyard near the building where I do live. Alike any other day, I awakened up early in the morning on the day and started to physical exercise. But the four youths suddenly came behind me and squeezed and shoved me into the auto-rickshaw. They took me in a nearby jungle and raped me one by one,” said the rape victim, at Rangamati General Hospital. (chtj-desk/report).
