RAB arrested arms traders, recover 3 AK-47
MOLLY BARUA, Bandarban: Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) recovered five firearms, including threeAK-47 and arrested three alleged armed traders from Bandarban Sadar upazila on Thursday noon.
Arrestees Lal-Pial Thung, 48, Bashu Bawm, 45, and Ching Thoai Chak, 44, have been running arms trade in the area since long, said Lieutenant Colonel Miftha Uddin Ahmed commanding officer of Rab-7.
A team of Rab-7 in the guise of customers called the arrestees showing their eagerness to buy firearms from them.
Responding to the call, the three traders went to Marma Bazar of the district town to sell their firearms and were caught red-handed, he added.
Sources said, among the arrestees, Lal Pial Thung is an assistant secretary of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity(PCJSS), Ruma upazilla unit.
Contacted, Investigation Officer (IO), Amir Hossain said no case was filled in this connection with Bandarban sadar police station while RAB team did not hand over the arrestees till 3:30 pm.
The RAB team also seized five magazines, four round bullets and four cell phone sets from the arrestees’ possession.(chtj-desk/report-Ban)
