79 members of MNP returns to normal life
CHTJ Desk: At least 79 members of Mro National Party (MNP) and Mro national Depend Party (MNDP) have returned to normal life after surrendering their arms and ammunitions to the Bangladesh army at Alikadam army camp in remote Kurukpata union under Alikadam upazila in Bandarban on Thursday morning.
They surrendered their arms to the army through a formal programme held at Kurukpata union. Some 55 local made guns with few sophiscated weapons they handed them over to army.
Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing, state minister for CHT affairs ministry, was the chief guest. Maj Gen Safikur Rahman, area commander , Kya Shwe Hla, chairman of Bandarban Hill District Council and superintendint of police Mizanur rahman were the special guests.
Members of the MNPdeposited LG, sharp machetes, bows and arrows. Every surrendered MNP member have received Tk 10,000 each from the Bandarban Hill District Council (BHDC). BHDC authority assured the returnees to ensured employment opportunity for them in the programme.
In 2009, the MNP was formed with impoverished youths, unleashing reign of terror in the area. Menoching Mro was the chief of the organisation. Members of the terrorist organisation engaged in killing, abduction and extortion soon after debut it.
On October 16 army called a cladestine meeting with the local leaders of Mro community at Alikadam zone about the surreder of MNP mem. Lt Col Mizanur Rahman, zone commander of Alikadam, former members of BHDC, Mang Sai Prue and Aung Prue Mro were present in that meeting along with others local leaders.
Very recently the members of joint forces made the MNP men subdued during combing operation and finally they agreed to surrender their arms and they sent a message to return to normal life, sources said.
