“Wagoiye poiye” festival celebrated in Bandarban
CHTJ Desk: “Wagoeipoye Festival”, the biggest religious festival of the Marma community, was celebrated at different areas in Bandarban on Wednesday with enthusiasm and religious fervour.
On the occasion, every village at district town and outlying areas wore festive look in entire Bandarban district.
The festival is observed at temples or pagodas after finishing of three months long rain treat by the monks in every temple. During this time, the monks lives in their respective temple, and they do not pass night except their own one. Marma people called it “Wagoeipoye” and the others indigenous people including Chakma called it “Prabarana Purnima”.
In Bandarban, Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing, state minister for CHT affairs ministry, inaugurated the “Wagoeipoyey Festival” as the chief guest.
Kya Shwe Halh, chairman of Bandarban Hill Dsitrict Council, Mizanul Haque Chowdhury, deputy commissioner of Bandarban, Mizanur Rahman, superintendent of police and Anup Dewan, civil surgeon were attended as special guests.
The programme concluded through panchachhila prayer, sangha dan, asthaprikkara dan, releasing of papers’ balloons and lit candles at evening. (chtj-desk/report).
