UPDF protest land grabbing by Bangalee settlers in Ramgarh
CHTJ Desk: United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) in a press release issued yesterday (Tuesday) protested the land grabbing by the Bangalee settlers at Hatimura under Ramgarh upazila in Khagrachhari district.
Some 110 acres of land that owned by the jumma people at Hatimura area had recently grabbed by the settler Bangalees under the help of army personnel. A total of 15 jumma families were used to live permanently on that land since time immemorial. In the late 1980, they were evicted by the government forces and they took refuge in India. After the signing of the peace accord they had come back on their previous land, and they started to live again there.
But in a sudden move by the army to evict them again from their own land was started few months ago. As part of its blue print, three settlers’ families were settled under the direct help of military last month. A panic situation is being also created in the area by the army in the name of patrolling there as if the indigenous people could not speak out against their conspiracy, release claimed.
Pradipan Khisa, top ranking leader of UPDF, in the release demanded to immediately withdrawal of the recently settled settlers’ families from the land of jumma people, and provides compensation to the affected indigenous families. (chtj-desk/report).
