ABDUCTION OF 2 LEADERS OF HWF, 3 orgs demanded unconditional release in Rangamati

CHT JOURNAL DESK: Leaders of Hill Women’s Federation (HWF), Gono Tantrik Juba Forum (GJF) and Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP), associate bodies of United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), brought out a procession and held a protest rally at Kutukchhari Bazar area under sadar upzila in Rangamati on Thursday afternoon.

Leaders demanded unconditional release of two Hill Women’s Federations’ and gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the administration to rescue the two leaders unhurt.

Speakers blamed the government for being subjected to torture, arrest and implicating in false cases of their leaders and activists by the security forces and law enforcers.

Aiming at destroying of UPDF, a deep conspiracy hatched by the government against the UPDF and henceforth killing and abduction goes on unabated against their leaders and activists, they said.

Earlier on Sunday, Manti Chakma, secretary of central committee of HWF and its member and district unit secretary Doya Sona Chakma were kidnapped by the armed members of Gono Tantric UPDF (Nabya Mukhosh Bahini), a rival faction of mainstream UPDF, led by its chief Tapan Jyoti Chakma alias Borma from Abasik area in Kutukchhari.

District leader of GJF Dharma Sing Chakma was wounded when the armed men opened fire at his house from a hundred yard of distance on the day.

Protesting the attack, UPDF, HWF, Parbatya Chattagram Nari Sangha and Ghilachhari Nari Nirjatan Pratirodh Committee on Wednesday observed a day long road and water ways blockade in Rangamati and Khagrachhari districts.

Presided over by district president of PCP Kunendu Chakma, they rally was also addressed, among others, by leader of GTF Paishila Mara, vice president of HWF Ruposi Chakma and PCP leader Nikon Chakma. (chtj-desk/report).
