ACC filed graft case against former mayor Saiful Islam Bhutto in Rangamati

NEWS DESK: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a graft case against former mayor of Rangamati municipality and three other staffs for embezzling money of holding taxes at Rangamati District Session and Judges Court on Thursday.

Md. Abul Bashar, assistant director of ACC, Rangamati office, filed the case (case no-4, 13/08/2020) as a complainant. Saiful Alahi, joint judge, who were discharging as acting district judge, received it as the criminal case.

The accused of the case are former mayor and vice-president of Rangamati district unit BNP Saiful Islam Bhutto, former account officer Sakur Miah, tax collector Nirmol Kanti Das and account assistant Md. Nurul Amin. Sakur Miah is currently in the Raojan Pourasabha office in Chattogram.

In the case statement, it said that the four through a nexus, by misusing power and capitalising faiths of the people misappropriated around Tk 20 lakhs (Tk19,88,847) which earned as holding taxes. The four fraudsters drew the money from the bank to deposit those in the government’s exchequer. But they did not deposit.

It’s a punishable offense under the section 409/109 as per the Corruption Prevention Act 1947 of 5(2), stated in the corruption case.
